This is a very common scene in Japan. This old woman has come on a bicycle to take care of a little flower garden that she has planted on public land beside the road.
This was sticking up beside the road. It is obviously a plant of some kind, but beyond that it is a mystery. I thought that these may be seed pods, but who knows?
One of the most common crimes in Japan is taking bicycles. Young people, in particular, take an unlock bicycle and ride it to where ever they are going. Some times rather than leaving on the street they will dump then into the grass beside the rivers.

A longish walk
For the first time since my operation, I felt that I had the strength to walk for an hour or so. Also the temperature was only around 26 or 27 degrees Celsius which not bad for walking. I left home and walked in the opposite direction from the station. I walked by the back of the hospital where I get my medicine and a block later came to the white rail that marks the edge of the first of our two rivers. Actually it is quite narrow most of the time and would be better called a stream.
The fall flowers were in full bloom so the view was very pleasant.
Along the right side of the river, er, stream, there is a paved walking path. At the place where I entered it, it was lined with flowers. This stream meets the main river a few kilometers down stream. I decided to walk to that point or stop earlier depending on how I felt and how the roads ran.

Odds and ends at home
The flight path for the Fukuoka airport is normal a few kilometers to the northeast of my apartment, but a couple of days ago a plane came by so that I could see it out my window. It was so close that it fill more than a third of this window. Normally the planes are off to the left.
Trash is sorted here and collected at different times, so we have to have three trash cans. The blue one is for PET bottles that are collected and recycled. The red one is for burnable trash. This is collected twice a week. And the gray one is for cans and bottles that are also recycled.
This is the beautiful view from the end of our balcony. It is to the left in the first picture. You probably can not see it but a Shinkansen train is passing on the tracks, the horizontal white line. The normal flight path for the planes is in this direction and the planes are usually far enough away that they disappear completely behind the telephone pole.
Looking straight down from the same spot, you can see out parking space. We don't have a car but the space comes with the apartment. The white fence is along the edge of a very small canal that carries rain water to the rice paddies or to the river, I am not sure which since it goes underground here.
Again from the same spot, you can see the garden across the street and in the distance the area around the station.

My wife and I went into Fukuoka city to visit Mr Kato at the hospital where I had my operation. Mr Kato was in the bed next to me and we became very friendly. He finally had his operation and was only a couple of days away from being released. On the way we stopped in the Hakata Station Building and had lunch at a Thai restaurant. This is a different restaurant. I took it on my way out of the Men's Room.
This is the nearest large intersection to the hospital. The interest thing is that my wife worked here more than forty years ago and the building is still here. It is the fourth one on the other side of the road, the four story building.
