A little further up the hill (after the old woman disappeared), we found a small shrine. Ian climbed up next to it so that the size would show in the picture.
The road went steadily uphill and there were even a few houses on the right. Apparently the left side was part of the park because there were no buildings at all on that side.
There were various types of vegetation and some of the stands of trees were quite interesting. This one, which you can see below my finger, had long, straight trunks on the trees. Since it was still early in the spring, the non-evergreens still had no leaves, or at best only small buds.
Here was a group of old, probably not ancient, trees beside the road. Some of them were leaning over into the empty space above a steep drop off.
From the map it looked like we still had a kilometer or more to go and it would all be up hill.
