Earthquake Diary 17

This section of the road was pushed from both directions and the weak area left after some road work buckled upwards.
Here the road was cracked from one side to the other as well as lengthwise. Water was flowing out of both ends of the crack and it was obvious that the water pipe beneath the road had broken. I guess I should walk back over that way and see it they fixed it or just shut off the water.
There used to be a wall, all the way from here to the other side of the gray house. It did not have a strong foundation so it fell forward against the back side of the levee. There are walls in front of the adjacent house and they are undamaged. I was both of them while they were building them and they have more of a structure below ground than above. Obviously the extra cost is worth it.
Here is a close up of part of the above wall. The tree is a plum tree that was getting ready to blossom. (Plums come out before the cherry blossoms.) I wonder what effect the shock will have on the tree. I know that pets, dogs and cats, for example, received a lot of stress from the quake. I friends tell us that their pets are still nervous and on edge.
