Here is the front of the last picture I posted yesterday. One thing that stood out was the volume and freshness of the flowers and little gifts, some of which were children's toys.
Continuing on, there were no more buildings, only foundations.
One one foundation there was a little homemade shrine, carefully framed in wood and covered with corrugated iron sheeting that is frequently used for roofs. Inside the offering were three cans of beer and some snacks in a dish. The bowl outside looked like it might have been for a family pet that was lost in the tsunami.
According to my map, this Christian cross is all that remains of a church that used to be here. One of the things that surprised me was the number of trees that had survived the direct hit by the tsunami.
I finally had reached the ocean. You can see it in the distance. The water in the foreground was a small port for fishing boats.
The bright red torii is the entrance to a shrine. You can see the roof on the left. There was a canal between me the shrine so I did not try to get over to see it closeup. Notice that there are buildings in the background. These apparently survived the tsunami enough to be repaired and they are currently in use again.
