Wild weather at a Vegalta soccer match

My friend Keith and I went to another soccer match. This year we are going about once a month. This was an afternoon game with the kickoff at 1 p.m.

As the players were warming up, the sky started getting darker and darker. Then after the kickoff it began to look like this.
Then about 10 minutes into the game it got really dark. I do not think that I have ever seen a day that was as dark as this.
Then it started hailing. The hailstones were between a half centimeter and a whole centimeter. There were sound and visual effects, thunder and lightning, accompanying the stone attack. The officials sent the players off the field. Keith and I were under the roof so we had no problems but the people in the front rows started moving back.
Then the rains came. Parts of the pitch flooded. It was like standing at the base of Niagara Falls.
After about 20 minutes the rain let up and the sky clear somewhat. After about 40 minutes the officials restarted the game and Vegalta went on to lose 1 - nil, but it was an interesting game to watch. The teams below Vegalta in the standings cooperated by appropriately losing or drawing, so Vegalta remains in first place in spite of the lose.

It is still raining

The rain from our balcony at about 10:30 this morning. I walked with Ian this morning, about 15 kilometers and had to use an umbrella most of the time.

We had a little sun yesterday morning but it was gone by noon, so I did not get to enjoy it. Sunday night I went to OctoberFest and did not get home until 2 a.m. I normally got to sleep about 9 p.m. and get up around 4 a.m. Yesterday I managed to sleep until 5 so I was pretty much out of it all day. Also at the OctoberFest I consumed a substantial amount of German wine and that slowed me down a little bit yesterday.

As for the rain, this is just like the spring Rainy Season. No one can remember a summer that had this much bad weather. There is one good side to it, though. It is not hot.

Last night after class, I met three of my friends and we stopped at a bar near the campus. We stayed for a couple of hours and caught up on what we have been doing and all the gossip about those who were not there. Afterwards I walked home through some of the heaviest rain that we have had this year.

Ian and I walked 10 km yesterday in a very heavy rain. We both discovered problems with our footwear. Ian's boots got wet all the way through, apparently because the waterproofing on the leather had worn off. My waterproof (to a point just bellow the lacing) walking shoes leaked around the tongue. My stockings got wet and I started to get blisters on my little toes. We got back before they got too bad and today they are fine.

The problem with my shoes is that the water that runs off my Gor-Tex rain suit, falls exactly on the point where the tongue connects to the body of the shoe. The water goes right through, I know because I can feel the drip and then the water soaking into the top of my stocking.

I am going to take the shoes to the repair shop in the shopping center near our apartment and ask them if they can glue the bottom half of the tongue to the shoe itself. That should stop the problem.

Another fib:

Rain
Falls
On me
Wetting all
I feel the wetness
But who is this 'I' who is wet?
