A stupa that someone made by piling up rocks. The Tibetan Buddhists are particularly known for doing this, but you sometimes find piles of rocks in Japan.
Looking down the mountain side from the one lane, but two-way, road. This was very steep and you can just see the river through the trees.
Another view from the same spot. This appeared to have been the main road at some point in the distant past. The road surface had been patched many times but showed few signs of recent use.
In the built up areas, the Henro Trail is well marked, but in the mountains, away from the vicinity of a temple, there are few markers and it is easy to get lost. Therefore, we were surprised to find this. There are five markers showing that we were to go off to the right. The white post also says that this is the Henro Trail but does not indicate where to do.
After we passed over the highest point we descended into a valley containing may farms. I thought this one was particularly nice looking.
