Oushuu33Kannon Temples 6-7 Part 5
We left the temple grounds and were back in the tourist area. There is a wide pedestrian walk between the road and the ocean, actually it is a large bay with a huge number of small islands with steep stone sides. This building is on one of the islands that is almost on shore. When we reach Temple #7, I will show you what the bay looks like from the hilltop.
We crossed a fairly large river. It was rather unpleasant because there was a strong cold wind blowing - the same wind that had prevented us from taking a train south. The large building on the other side of the river is a hotel.
After passing through a housing area, we passed into the countryside. The terrain was low hills but we were passing through what appeared to be a valley that would open into a flood plain. There were buildings on the higher surrounding hills. At first we thought the buildings on the distant hill in this picture was Temple #7, but a look at our map showed that we still had a long way to go. However, it was a temple, just not one of the Oushuu 33 Kannon temples.
Once out of the hills, there were extensive flat farm areas separated by more low hills. This picture shows rice paddies that they were being prepared for planting. In this area they are only able to plant once a year, but further south in Japan it is possible to double crop and some places even triple crop.
Temple #7 appeared to be at the top of the highest hill in the picture. We could just see the roofs of some buildings that had the distinctive shape of a temple.
