At a shrine

This is a sacred tree near the entrance. The sign says that it is protected, but I am not sure who or how this is done.
This is the altar. Someone has been here recently to take care of the site because the leaves in the vases are fresh.
The shrine god, who may be represented by a mirror, a statue, or some other object, is behind the closed doors, which are probably only opened when there is some kind of service or ceremony. I was a bit amused by the offerings that had been left here. The large object is a small bottle of Japanese sake, rice wine. The white thing in the middle is an empty cup, apparently for drinking the sake. And the small red object on the left is a child's toy, one of those windup things that walk.
