We stopped to eat and discovered this charming old abandoned house, with a couple of small rice paddies between it and the road.
After we returned to Sendai, I used this photo and some others that showed individual parts of the building to draw the following picture. It is currently in an art show at the Culture Center where I take drawing lessons. At many places the road cut through a small point leaving a high place between the road and the ocean. Many of these had interesting rock formations like the following.
The beaches were very nice but they looked more or less unfrequented. There were no restaurants or other facilities for many kilometers in either direction.
At places like this, where we could see one or two headlands, the length of our day's trip became very clear and more than a little oppressive. Here, for example, we knew that we had to walk around the second point before we would reach our evening's lodge.
