We were finally approaching Muroto Peninsular, the southern most point on the east side of the island of Shikoku. The area was slowing becoming built up, with more houses, factories, and even a few stores. We found this mermaid in the parking lot of a factory of some kind. I am sure that it was related to fish or fishing but I do not know how.
This statue of Kobo Daishi was very impressive. The next temple, Temple #24, is on the top of the hill in the background. This hill is the last of the land and, when it drops to sea level a kilometer or so to the left, there is nothing but ocean for thousands of kilometers to the south.
This majestic rock formation was typical of the landscape on Muroto.
We found another large rock formation as we came nearer to the southernmost point.
We discovered a rest area where we could use the public toilets. There were vending machines so we bought sports drinks, removed out packs and rested for a while. This beautiful cat was not at all impress by the two humble Pilgrims.
