There were many small halls and wallless but roofed buildings. And we again met the cartoon character that we were now finding at every temple. Many of the Pilgrims and other visitors stopped in front of these small halls and lit incense, if a burner was available, then chanting the Heart Sutra or some other Chinese Buddhist writing. I guess I should remind you that the writing is in Chinese but it is pronounced with the Japanese pronunciation of the characters.
This seemed to be a place for the monks to live, but I was unable to actually find out the true.
The following is the main hall of the temple. It was quite impressive.
This picture shows a Pilgrim (I know because he is wearing the special clothing) going up the stairs in preparation for chanting the Heart Sutra.
