Houses and a stele

 This is the entrance to a private home. The building is not particularly Japanese style, but the garden certainly is.

 This stele, with illegible writing, is in a niche in the wall along side the road. This must to some sense be a public object since the roadside barriers and the markings on the road allow access to it

This house does not have a great garden but it is more in the Japanese style. However, it you look carefully at the lower roof, you will see that it is badly in need of repair. I suspect that, as with many other houses, the occupants are old and it is a contest to see who will last longer the occupants or the building.
