Oushuu33Kannon Temples 11-12-13 Part 8

This is one of the statues of Kannon which was located beside the path up the hill.
Here is another statue, although this may not be Kannon. The building with the red roof is the main shrine of this small complex to the side of the main temple. The roof on the right covers an area dedicated to children, which is appropriate because Kannon represents safe childbirth and the protection of children.
The statues under the roof are children and bodhisattvas and according to the sign are dedicated to the raising of children.
We continued up the hill to the main complex building and discovered the at the door was closed. However, we climbed up the stairs, rang the bell by pulling on the hanging cords, and stood in silent respect for a bit.
I then realized that I could see in through the square openings in the door. I stuck my camera into one of them and using the night setting. There are two curtains that are covering whatever statues the recesses contain. However, you can see where the priest would sit and chant using the large bowl-like bell. The flowers on the altar were fresh so someone had chanted earlier in the morning. The long vertical signs say that this altar is number 11 on the Oushuu 33 Kannon Pilgrimage (on the left) and also number 11 on the Shinshu 33 Kannon Pilgrimage. Previously I had not heard much about these 33 Kannon pilgrimages but I have now discovered there are many of them.
