Ian and I are walking again, at least for a few weeks. Ian is going to get busy so we will have to stop again until autumn but for now we are meeting on Wednesday mornings for a trip around the park. I go to Yaotome and take the third train of the morning. The picture shows the empty platform, the escalator and stairs, and an ad for Vegalta, the Sendai soccer team. I should mention that this season they are at the top of the J1. They were number one a few times but recently have been moving up and down between 2nd and 4th.
This is the empty station at Kita Sendai where I get off the subway and go up to the train station waiting room to meet Ian.
As we started for the Shinrin Park, we had to wait for one of the commuter trains to pass.
After doing one loop around the path, we started back to Kita Sendai on the opposite side of the four lane divided road that we had used to get there. Here we found another damaged apartment building being repair. I heard (don't know if it is true or not) that in Sendai over 100 apartment buildings had been so badly damaged that they are no longer inhabitable.
After leaving the four lane road, we take back alleys the rest of the way. This used to be a wall separating the house from the pavement. This was surprising because the concrete blocks had steel reinforcing rods and most walls like that did not fall down. This was relatively neat, so maybe it had just fallen over as one big chunk, and then been broken up and picked up as part of the clean up by the owner.
Just before getting back to Kita Sendai, where we were going to stop at Mr Donuts, there is a Buddhist temple on a hill. Next year when I have lots of free time, I will have to enter the grounds and see what the inside looks like.
