Earthquake Diary 102

Continuing my walk, I found a small building that had lost a wall and everything on the inside was a mess. A single rope, protected the contents and suggested to passers-by that they should stay clear as they passed. An aftershock could easily collapse the whole thing.
I kept finding large cracks in the pavement, but only photographed a few of them. The tip of my shoe gives a good idea of the size. In this case I could not see the bottom.
Rice paddies are frequently at different heights where the levels are separated by steep-sided walls, maximizing the land available for planting. Here one of these walls has collapsed.
Beside the road, there was a small group of buildings. They all seemed to be abandoned. Reason was very obvious in this case.
At this location, the sidewalk was almost un-passable. The difference between the heights of the left and right sides of the yellow strip was more than 50 centimeters.
This is the entrance to a small apartment building. Someone has cleaned up a little. The broken tiles have moved out of the way and the column has been wrapped in plastic. Notice that the decorative vertical rods have all broken way at the top.
