The Hachimangu altar

Behind the roofed platform, I found this little shrine. The base was about one meter square. It was very small but obviously kept up well.
The altar inside had a mirror, which is common in Shinto shrines and relates to the sun.
Hidden around the side on the left, I found this little guy. He was about a foot high. I am not sure what the think he is holding is. Some kind of religious instrument, I think, but in any case it is definitely neither a tennis racket or a spoon.
