These are paper cranes made from folded paper, origami. People make a thousand of them as a plea for help, often for high school sports teams, but here they are for the people involved in the disaster.
It is hard to see but there is a statue of a nude woman in the middle.
These are strips of paper with messages of hope and solace written on them. This picture and the previous one appear to have been taken in a wooded glen, but in reality it is the divider for a six lane road in the middle of town.
It was still early when I passed through here on my way home from my art lesson, so things were still being set up. The woman in the kimono was involved in some way but it was to early to see what they were doing.
As always this sort of festival is not complete unless it is possible to buy beer. The tent will soon be a beer stand and around it there will be food stalls.
The subway was full of young men and women in traditional dress.
