After art class and lunch, I went with a group of fellow students to see an art show in Mediatheque, a public building containing performance space, a library, art galleries, and meeting rooms. It was made by a famous architect and is very modern. As we were leaving, we heard music from the first floor so a couple of us went to investigate. We found a fashion show with live music.
The clothes were made from the material that is used to make kimonos and the design was very reminiscent of traditional Japanese styles but at the same time seemed very modern.
This dress, for example, would be suitable for almost any dressy occasion.
The music was being provide by a single woman playing an amplified violin. I enjoyed the music very much and the fashions were quite interesting.
As I walked to the subway station, I again heard music. This time it was a jazz band playing in the green area separating the lanes of the road. Sendai is very musical. They hold a classical music contest here every couple of years, and every year there is a jazz festival during which around 100 groups play at various indoor and outdoor locations around this part of town.
This is a very common site in Sendai, and throughout the Tohoku area. A section of a building, or a complete structure will have a temporary fence around it. This means that they are repairing earthquake damage.
