This was kind of strange. These are gravestones that have been removed from the graveyard and piled here while the reconstruction work is going on. This long thin pile is actually across the street from the temple, which you can see in the background.
This is a small hexagonal building next to the main temple. In the background you can see the graveyard from which the previous stones had been removed.
A statue on the temple grounds, probably Amida but I am not sure.
I walked up into the housing area behind the temple and found this little Shinto shrine near a house. The dark red objects in the foreground are the remains of a previous shrine, probably broken in the quakes.
The manhole covers in this area have a plant design.
This is a guard who controls the gate into the temple graveyard. (The same temple as before, because my walk through the housing area brought me to the far side of the temple.) The guard was allowing the construction workers who were repairing the graveyard to enter but keeping out everyone else. I guess people will have to wait until the work is finished to visit the family grave.
