As we walked toward the Snow Fesitval site, we passed an empty lot between to stores. It was completely filled with snow.
At the next intersection we could see the meter or so of snow on the roof over the sidewalk.
This is a close up of the traffic light. The snow almost covered up some of the lights.
We assumed that the large number of cars must be related to the Festival, especially considering that it was a Saturday night so there would have been few people returning from work.
This was the entrance to the Festival grounds. It was down a steep snow-covered slope. Some people were falling down but I made it safely.
Inside the grounds there were a number of igloos made from snow. These are called Kamakura in Japanese.
This one had fires in metal baskets in front of it. The temperature was very low so this particular Kamakura was very popular.
This is me standing beside the entrance to a different Kamakura.
