Earthquake Diary 78

This was kind of weird. These carved stone heads were just resting on the ground next to a house. It made me wonder where they left their bodies.
This telephone (actually electric) pole moved so much that it broke the pavement on the sidewalk. Also their is a space of a couple of centimeters around the pole.
This old man (I should talk, I am probably older than him) was fixing up the gateball court. Gateball is the Japanese version of croquet. It is very popular with the elderly. There are organized leagues and even a national championship. I think you have to be at least 60 to play in the organized games.
I showed pictures of the collapsed levee bank near my condo. Here they are building a temporary road so that they can do the necessary repairs.
This is the stream bed near the collapse. It was full of small trees but they have cut them and made piles of branches.
This is further up that same stream. I had to go Miyagi Gakuen University and the walking path along the river is one of the shorter ways to get there. This construction site will eventually be land for industrial development or new houses. I was surprised that the open land cuts did not collapse during the tremors.

Last night, Saturday, April 16, a bunch of the Sendai boys, decided that is was time to get together. Around 15 of us met at the Ha'penny Bridge, an Irish pub that serves real Guinness beer using a system imported from Ireland as was the interior. We had a very good time and the chance to tell our stories to the others and to listen to their experiences was very therapeutic for all.

Sure wish you stop talking in "centimeters" and use "real" measurements that we could understand!

I wish the US would join the rest of the world and use the measurements that everyone else uses.
