Earthquake Diary 24

I just back from almost seven hours of foraging for food. It was a very successful trip. We got milk, hamburger, tofu, and other stuff, but I am exhausted. Therefore, I will simply post some pictures for today and write about today tomorrow morning.

This is a neighborhood store that sells Buddhist altars and other related items. The inside of the store was really trashed and some employees were trying to sort things out when I walked by.
This is the convenience store, a 7/11, that is a few hundred meters from my apartment. The put a sign on the door and three hours before they planned to open this line had developed. You will notice that the people are facing away from the store. That is because the line goes out to the street, down the sidewalk, and across the parking lot to the front door. Then end of the line is out of sight on the left.
It does not show very well but between the fence and the manhole cover the sidewalk dropped almost 20 cm.
This is a sushi shop, across the street from the 7/11. Most of the tiles have fallen off the rood.
This is the gym and in the distance the classroom building of the local grade school. The gym was our evacuation center and there were so many people in the first night that there was not room to lay down. Each person had only enough room to sit. Most of the people in my building went there, except those who live of the first four floors.
What looks like a cloud stretching from the center to the left side of the picture is smoke from a fire at Sendai Port. It was about 15 km away but we could see it clearly. At night the sky was red for hours.
