Earthquake Diary 29

Continuing the pictures of shopping in Ito Yokado. The tall rack of packages in the middle is something that was one of our main aims - diapers for the baby.
The cash registers we set up inside the entrance way under the Ito Yokado sign. Customers entered here and move to the left. Just outside the left edge of the picture the line turned right moving through the candy, etc, area and then passed along the front of the building where they were selling fruit and vegetables on package of each type per person. Then the line passed though piles of toilet paper and tissues (we were able to buy one package of each per person) and into the check out area. We bought just about as much as we could carry.
This gas stations was open but there was a very long line waiting. Some of the cars had run out of gas while waiting and were being pushed toward the station.
This is a yakitori shop. Yakitori is pieces of chicken on a stick that are roasted over a charcoal fire. They were open and serving both lunch and takeout.
In the afternoon I went to the 7/11 and was able to buy a loaf of bread, again one to a customer.
The gas station across the street was open and in addition to the line of cars, there was a long line of people with plastic jerry cans, waiting to get kerosene for their home heaters. I walked a little way down the street and discovered that a cake shop was open. It is not as good as another one but it was open, so I bought eight cakes. They were on sale - all the cakes were 200 yen each which is at least 50 yen below the normal price.
This is my granddaugher enjoying one of the cakes
This is the supermarket nearest my apartment at about three hours before the sign said that they would open. The line went around to the left. I had just stepped a bit to my right to take this picture. Behind me the line stretched for close to 300 meters.
